There is no right or wrong time to seek out the help of a coach.  And the benefits of working with a coach can really depend on where you find yourself hung up the most.

Different people seek out the help of a coach at different levels or phases of the transformation process.  Those steps include but are not limited to:

Different levels or phases that people seek out a coach

  1. Self Perception And Confidence
  2. Clarity
  3. Setting Goals
  4. Improving Habits
  5. Creating Actionable Steps
  6. Doing The Work

Once you are clear on exactly what you want in your life, personally and/or professionally, a coach can help you to turn your desires into goals. And that is when the real fun starts.

I like to compare the transformative process of working with a coach to that of working with a personal fitness trainer.

There will be times you don’t want to show up, times that it just feels too hard, and times that you want to quit.  The results happen in the ability to overcome even yourself as an obstacle to your transformation.  In the same way a good trainer will not let you quit, as a coach, I won’t let my clients give up on themselves and what they want for their life and/or business; even when it feels like it is just too hard to keep going.

That is the greatest benefit, in my opinion, to working with a coach.  But there’s more!

10 Benefits of Working With a Coach To Change Your Life

Change Your Perception of Yourself

Making the decision to work with a coach is the first step and demonstrates the fact that you value yourself.  It is a commitment of your time and energy, as well as a monetary investment.

When working with a coach, if you fully commit to the process, you begin to value yourself even more.

A good coach will help you to set strong boundaries in the necessary areas of your life.  This can include friends, family members, and co-workers/colleagues.

Doing that enables you to communicate your needs and wants more confidently, which in turn allows you to see a boost in your self-esteem.

And when your self-esteem increases, so do your possibilities!

Increase Confidence

A lack of confidence is one of the biggest things that stop you from making progress on your goals.  When I wrap up with coaching clients for our final session, I like to ask about what they learn about themselves while we have worked together.

There is always some variation of “I can do more than I originally thought I could’’.

The more you accomplish, even in the smallest increments towards your goals, it’s only natural that your belief in yourself and your abilities multiplies.

Believing in yourself is priceless because it doesn’t matter how much skill or opportunity someone has, without knowing what you are capable of, life is an ongoing struggle.

A well-matched coach will help you to develop extraordinary levels of self-belief.

Clarity on Goals

Often, people will choose to work with a coach because they’re feeling stuck or at a crossroad in their life.  In one way or another, they are unsure of what they want. This is normal and par for the course in several stages of life.

Whether it be because you recently finished school and now have to figure out who you are in the world; recently got married and want to determine how to remain an individual while in a life partnership; wanting to change careers because you no longer feel fulfilled in the role you are in; reach a milestone age and decided you needed something more, or that you just had a baby, and want life to have meaning inside and outside of parenting.

A great coach will help you to find the answers through powerful questions.

Develop Better Habits

Sometimes the block you are experiencing is a result of the habits, or lack thereof, that you have in place.  Even a minor shift in your daily practices and habits can be life-changing.  Having good habits in place can help you overcome negative thinking, anxiety, and even minimize stress.

A coach can help you to choose and implement the habits that will serve you best.

Define Action Steps

Sometimes you know the what, but need help in formulating a plan for the how.

Another big reason why someone may hire a Coach is they already know what they want but they’re unsure how to make it happen.

A coach will not only help you to discover what those actions are, but they’ll also help you to organize them and collaborate with you to create a clear and effective plan of action.

Six months ago, I was hired by a client who was good at writing but doing web design because it seemed to come easier.

After only six months of working together, we have begun to uncover her fears about being a writer, built her confidence to pursue writing on her terms, and worked to eliminate her negative self-talk.

Today, her primary source of income is now coming from her writing skills and she is on track to make the most she has ever made doing something that she loves doing.

Work Through Obstacles

There are two main obstacles that get in our way.  External and internal.

External being the things that come up that we could not plan for and have to workaround.

Internal obstacles are things like fears, negative self-talk, and limiting beliefs.  We have to work around those as well.

Effective coaches have exceptional listening skills.

They understand that words reveal our world.

A coach will help you spot what fears or limiting beliefs are holding you back and help you to move past them. Les Brown said ‘’You can’t see the picture when you’re standing in the frame’’.

Your coach will help you see what you can’t see.

Additionally, a coach can help you strategize for those things that come up that you did not foresee or plan for.  Allowing you to carve out a path forward and around them.

Accountability

Time is our greatest resource.  We can’t get more of it and we can’t get it back once it has passed.  So it is imperative that we use our time wisely.

Having someone to hold you accountable, helps to ensure that you are maximizing the use of your time.  A good coach will make sure that you are not only carving out time to accomplish your goals but also take time to do regular things like have fun and work in moments of relaxation as well.

Equip You With The Right Tools

We are all at different points in our lives and journey, whether it’s time management, stress management, communication, confidence, or something else you need help to improve, the right coach will equip you with the necessary tools to get you where you want to go.

As a coach, I am continually growing and learning, just like my clients.  This allows me to gain more knowledge and experience that I can share with my clients.

It’s important when you’re looking to invest in a coach that they are also investing in themselves.

Remind You Of Your Motivation

Once you get clear on what you want, you then have to start taking action to begin seeing improvements or results.  Something to keep in the forefront of your mind is your why.

Why are you looking to change, improve or do something different?

When you have a clear understanding of your why, you have a source of continuous motivation.

Our  WHY is usually bigger than just ourselves.

Someone looking to change careers may be motivated by being able to provide a better life for their family.  Someone looking to use their time more wisely in their business may be wanting to have more free time to give back.  And then, someone looking to improve their business processes, most likely want to provide added value and a positive experience for their clients.

Knowing your motivation, also known as your WHY, helps you to keep moving forward.  And a good coach keeps this front and center for you!

Give Support

There is nothing like the feeling of being supported.  Having someone in your corner. Someone who can believe in you and your dreams. Someone who will encourage and motivate and hold you accountable.

Working with a coach will help you to get to where you want to be smoother than you going at it alone because you have someone to help you with carrying the weight.

If we go back to comparing a coach to a fitness trainer, when you work out with a trainer, and you are lifting weights, your trainer is usually there – right by your side.  When the weight feels too heavy after several repetitions, not only does your trainer encourage you, but if needed they are there to help shoulder the weight as well.

Coaches help to support you through your journey and transformation.
