While I, in no way, want to minimize the effects and impact that trauma and traumatic experiences can have over a person, I do believe the affirmations paired with other resources such as therapy, support groups, and other help can change things.

This means that there are no negative situations or events which you cannot get past. All it takes is for your brain to become stronger, by using different tools which are available to us, including affirmations. Using affirmations can help to make sure that you are able to take complete control over every aspect of your life and to develop into someone who will only succeed because they not only deserve success, but they actually want it. 

In order to use affirmations properly though, you need to be mindful of several important factors.

Affirmations are a powerful tool for improving your attitude and personal development. When they’re done right, they can become an integral part of your self-development routine. I’ll show you how to use them for personal development, with tips on keeping your positive thoughts strong and inspiring daily action.   

You don’t need me to tell you that willpower is essential when it comes to developing yourself. Think about what you really want from your life and what changes you really want to make. For example, maybe you are struggling with negative behaviors or behaviors you feel aren't helping you to be successful; these behaviors may even be killing your motivation and happiness.

It's only natural to wonder how do I stop doing X? Or perhaps I wish I could change Y.  

Find words that inspire and motivate you

Your affirmation needs to mean something special to you in order for it to have impact and meaning. It should appeal specifically to what goals or issues you're working on now or will be working on in the future. 

Write in First Person

You should always make sure that your affirmation begins with I am… For example, I am intelligent; I am capable; I am loving;  I am happy; I am beautiful. 

Minimal is best

Our brains process information the best when we keep things as simple as possible, so try to avoid adding many statements within one affirmation because it will confuse your mind. Instead, break up statements so each line has its own importance attached. 

Rewrite as necessary

Rewrite out statements until they sound exactly like you would speak them aloud.

Repeat

When it comes to self-development, repetition is key. The more often you say your new mantra aloud, the quicker you will be able to adopt it as part of your daily routine.
